The alpaca (Lama pacos) is a species of South American camelid mammal, and is often confused with the llama. Alpacas are often noticeably smaller than llamas. They are covered in a soft fleece that is similar to sheep's wool, and the fiber is used for knitting hats, gloves, scarves, etc. They are also used a pack animals to haul goods.
